Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 18th 2018 – Eleven years ago today, November 18th 2011, then St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister, the Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, was appointed to Her Majesty’s Privy Council.
At the time of the appointment, the distinguished and charismatic St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister and Caribbean Head of Government was just serving his 22nd year as a Member of the St. Kitts and Nevis National Assembly.
“The Queen has been pleased to approve the appointment of the Prime Minister of St Christopher and Nevis, Dr. Denzil Douglas, to Her Majesty’s most Honourable Privy Council,” said then British Prime Minister, The Right Hon. David Cameron in a statement from his Official Residence at Number 10 Downing Street in London.
“I warmly congratulate Dr. Douglas on his appointment by Her Majesty the Queen to Her Majesty’s Privy Council. I welcomed the opportunity to meet Dr. Douglas at the recent Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting where we discussed issues of shared interest to both our countries.
I believe that this appointment is fitting for a Prime Minister with many years of loyal service to Her Majesty and I look forward to working with Dr. Douglas in years to come,” said the British Prime Minister.
Congratulating Dr. Douglas on his elevation, then Barbados-based British High Commissioner to St. Kitts and Nevis, His Excellency Mr. Paul Brummell, in brief remarks at the Official Launch of activities to commemorate The Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in Basseterre said: “I would like to take this opportunity to warmly congratulate the Prime Minister, Dr. Douglas, on his appointment by Her Majesty the Queen to Her Majesty’s Privy Council,” said Mr. Brummell.
With that appointment, the words “Right Honourable” is prefixed to the Prime Minister name.
Dr. Douglas is now a seventh-term Member of Parliament, representing St. Christopher 6 (Newton Ground to Harris’) for the past 29 years.
