Basseterre, St Kitts, December 8, 2019 – Federal Minister of Public Infrastructure, Post, Urban Development, Transport and Energy, Hon Ian Patches Liburd, continues to flout regulations at the Robert L Bradshaw International Airport.
“On Saturday, minister Patches Liburd parked his private vehicle, P8334, in the parking lot on the western section of the airport terminal and boarded a plane. He parked his SUV in the spot allocated to Mr Euclid Richardson. That is not right. It is grossly improper for minister Liburd to continue this type of behaviour and flouting the policies and regulations that others have to obey,” said a person who requested the name not be mentioned.
The controversial minister has been involved in several serious breaches in the Secured Area of the Robert L Bradshaw International Airport. An incident in April was so serious when he walked past the security officers, went out to the airside and handed an American Airline stewardess a package, that reportedly led to the downgrading of the Robert L Bradshaw Airport by the International Civil Aviation Authority (ICAO).
Another breach was reported in October and although he has denied the incidents, a leaked video shows him walking past a security officer who was screening an airline attendant in October at the same time.
A report on the April incident has been completed and sent to the Office of the Prime Minister for discussion by the Cabinet, but many are of the view that the report will not be discussed in Cabinet and will be shelved and the minister will continue his rogue behaviour.
Minister Liburd in his capacity as minister responsible for transport has oversight of the St Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA).
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon Mark Brantley, has the portfolio of aviation.
