Minister Ian Patches Liburd on another joyride at SCASPA’s expense.

Basseterre, St Kitts, September 10, 2019 – Controversial Federal Minister of Public Infrastructure, Post, Urban Development, Transport and Energy, Hon Ian Patches Liburd is again out of the federation at a time when electricity consumers are experiencing an island-wide load shedding as a result of a major problem at the Needsmust Power Plant and there is no water in the pipes 24 hours a day for residents on Cayon, Keys and surrounding areas .
Minister Liburd is reported to be out of the federation having departed the Robert L Bradshaw International Airport on a trip related to the St Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA) of which he has ministerial responsibility, but allegedly runs the day to day operations without consulting the Chief Executive Officer.
His latest sojourn, according to sources is taking him to Sea Trade Europe being held in Hamburg, Germany from September 11th to 13th.
Information is that the cost of the tickets alone for Liburd and the new chairman, Mr.Gary Da Silva is in the region of EC$40,000.
“This trip to Sea Trade in Europe is unnecessary. This trip is useless and will cost SCASPA about EC$60,000 in total,” said a source who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Minister Liburd’s frequent travels, which industry sources say are unnecessary as such events should be attended by the SCASPA chairman and the CEO, have been dubbed “joy rides” and have raised serious concerns following reports that he incurred expenses amounting to EC$40,000 on a trip to Spain last year at SCASPA’s expense.
“A trip he made to Europe last month accompanied in the company of another person cost SCASPA EC$79,000,” the source said
At a time when SCASPA is celebrating 26 years, “Minister Liburd was also absent from the church service on Sunday,” the source added.
“If you add up his SCASPA trips in just four years, they might very well surpass that of all previous ministers who had responsibility for SCASPA,” said another source.
