Leader of the Opposition in St. Kitts and Nevis, Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas is currently meeting with stakeholders of the St. Kitts and Nevis Citizenship By Investment (CBI) Program, reassuring the commitment of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party to a CBI program free of politics, corruption, and illegal activity.
During the course of this week, Dr. Douglas has already met and will continue to meet with a number of economic citizens, agents, investors and developers from Europe and the Middle East, who all have interest in investing in St. Kitts and Nevis.
This trip comes just days after Dr. Douglas informed and warned persons of the Federation of a number of illegal acts surrounding the program.
During his presentation at the SKNLP Press Conference in January 2019, Dr. Douglas stated that a number of CBI agents are working along with the Harris-led government in conducting money–making schemes and are sharing the profits. These illegal schemes, Dr. Douglas stressed, are undermining and devaluing the Federation’s CBI product.
“I want to emphasize that I believe, with the evidence that we have, deals have been made with the main actors, with the CIU and with the Office of the Prime Minister, deals have been made so that profits are being shared. Illegal money is being obtained or money obtained from these illegal acts and the undermining of the program, money is being shared among the illicit actors and that does not exclude those who are here in the Office of the Prime Minister.”
Dr. Douglas further stated that the perpetrators of these acts have allegedly threatened Prime Minister Timothy Harris and the government, in the event they [Harris and his government] ever intended to disclose their dealings.
“I also want to say very clearly, the violators are very well known to the government. In fact, I can say here that there is a company called ‘Savoury’, there is another company called ‘Triple A’, another called ‘Bluemina’. The Prime Minister and the government is backed against the wall as they are fearful of the information that can come out from these agents if they [the government] make any attempts to stop the schemes.
He continued, “…And the CEO threatened them that if any action is taken, with regard to what the press has unearthed is taking place in the program, they will be dragged into the mud, because they are holding, I understand, physical evidence, text messages, emails, physical incriminating evidence, that if they [the government] would only try to stop them, they [Harris government] would be named themselves, and so the government of St. Kitts and Nevis cannot do anything with regard to what is happening in our program.”
“It is almost as if they [Harris government and SKN CBI] are kidnapped. It’s like they are being held hostage. By doing deals with the devil, the devil will eventually make you a devil yourself. That is what is happening here in our program. So I don’t expect that the government of St. Kitts and Nevis will do anything to these illegal actors at all.”
According to Dr. Douglas, this is the basis of his message to international stakeholders who have all grown very weary and scared to invest in the CBI since Prime Minister Harris took office.
“It will take a new government, a Labour administration, to come in and correct these wrongs and bring dignity and pride back to the program. I say in particular to the citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis, especially those of you who have spent large sums of money to invest in the Citizenship By Investment Program in St. Kitts and Nevis, that very soon, the dignity and pride with which you held in the citizenship of St. Kitts and Nevis, the dignity and pride with which you traveled around the world with a St. Kitts and Nevis passport, that will be returned.”
He stated that the St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party, when it is returned to office, will clean up the mess and make sure that those who are the illicit actors would no longer taint what was in the past, a very prominent, leading, global program
