Opposition Leader Dr. Douglas Responds To Prime Minister Harris, Says He Has Never Invested In Dominica

Former Prime Minister of St. Kitts-Nevis and leader of Her Majesty’s Opposition, Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas has responded to claims made by Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris, stating that Dr. Douglas made significant investments in the Commonwealth of Dominica.

In an official statement released last week Friday 24th August, 2018, Dr. Douglas denounced the Prime Minister’s allegation as “deceptive, flagrant and most outrageous.”

Within the statement, Dr. Douglas stated that he has never invested in Dominica, nor has he ever invested in a housing project, alone or jointly with other parties in Dominica or in any other country. He stated that the efforts and attempts by Prime Minister Harris to defame his name have reached the heights of desperation, adding that it is a result of the Prime Minister realizing he is a failure.

“He is now beginning to feel the weight of his failure and the failure of his Minister of Housing, Hon. Eugene Hamilton, as both have failed to deliver appropriate homes to our people in the numbers and quality that they promised while in opposition, some four years ago,” an excerpt from the statement read.

Dr. Douglas further noted that this is another attempt by Prime Minister Harris to distract the general public’s attention away from the fact that in addition to high corruption and gross incompetence, failure has become another trademark of his coalition regime.

The opposition leader stressed that Prime Minister Harris’ attack on his character will not be tolerated, adding that he will seek legal advice on the matter.

STATEMENT BY LEADER OF HER MAJESTY’S LOYAL OPPOSITION RT. HON. DR. DENZIL DOUGLAS RESPONDING TO PRIME MINISTER DR. TIMOTHY HARRIS’ DOMINICA HOUSING INVESTMENT ALLEGATION

It has come to my attention that Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris, in his usual deceptive fashion, has recently attempted to perpetuate a flagrant and most outrageous lie about me in the public sphere.

I wish to inform the nation here and now that I, Denzil Llewellyn Douglas, have never invested in Dominica. I have never invested in a housing project, neither alone nor jointly with other parties, in Dominica or any other country.

Evidently, Dr. Harris’ level of desperation has reached astronomical heights. He is now beginning to feel the weight of his failure and the failure of his Minister of Housing, Hon. Eugene Hamilton, as both have failed to deliver appropriate homes to our people in the numbers and quality that they promised while in opposition, some four years ago.

In his usual deceptive style, Dr. Harris is attempting to distract the general public’s attention away from the fact that in addition to high corruption and gross incompetence, failure has become yet another trademark of his coalition regime. His administration has failed to provide good quality healthcare for our people; it has failed to provide necessary education programmes and opportunities for the people; and it has also completely failed to curb the criminal activity that continues to sweep across the Federation like a vicious social cancer.

Despite having sat as the Prime Minister for nigh four years, reality continues to elude Dr. Harris. He has yet to understand that his many attempts at the assassination of my character do not garner him the political mileage he so rabidly seeks. Conversely, these attacks serve to prove to the country that Dr. Harris is existing in a state of perpetual political desperation having failed to fulfil his mandate to the people. Additionally, he is cognizant of the fact that prior to his and his coalition’s election to office, neither myself nor the Labour Party administration that I led had ever been plagued by scandals.

Dr. Harris is evidently haunted by the numerous scandals that encapsulate him personally as well as his government, all of which have rightly led to his purported loyalty and patriotism being called into question. These include the herpes vaccine scandal of 2016 and most recently, the London Bribery Scandal of 2018 which saw the Prime Minister being identified by his official title of “Prime Minister of St. Kitts-Nevis” in conversations of bribery between Peter Virdee and his business partner, Dieter Trutschler.

Neither Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition, the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party, nor myself are remotely concerned about Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris’ self-engineered political troubles. His constant desperate verbal attacks and attempts to defame my character and reputation will not be tolerated. In order to ensure that his peddling of this blatant lie is stopped, I will seek advice regarding taking urgent legal action against Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris.
