Primary and secondary students in St Kitts and Nevis will get laptops when Labour returns to office in 2020.

Basseterre, St Kitts, November 25, 2019 – Students attending the Grade 5 of primary schools and high schools in St Kitts and Nevis will once again be the recipients of their personal laptops when the NexGen SKN Labour Government is returned to office next year.
The Rt Hon Dr Denzil L Douglas, Political Leader of the St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) has reaffirmed that committment in a FaceBook posting over the weekend.
“That’s why my former Labour Administration made the Children our priority from; Pre School through Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Level. The NexGen SKN Labour Government will continue where we left off, reintroducing the Laptops Program, REACH and other incentives to develop and grow the young minds,” Dr Douglas said.
During his prime ministership, the Douglas administration with the assistance of the Republic of China (Taiwan) provided students on Nevis and St Kitts with their personal laptop computers from 2010.
The programme aimed at making life better for the students was stopped by the Timothy Harris-led PLP/PAM/CCM coalition when it took office in mid-February 2015, thus placing additional financial burdens on parents and guardians.
Minister of Education and Youth, Hon Shawn Richards said the laptops given to school children by the Labour administration were a waste of time because some students were seen on the outside of an establishment seeking WiFi internet connection.
