Since Dr. Harris has taken office he has governed in a manner that has seen the worst assault on democracy that this country has experienced in a very long time.

When we look around our Federation, we in the Parliamentary Opposition are very dismayed and concerned about the great levels of corruption, conflicts of interest, victimization and nepotism that have become the hallmarks of the present Administration led by Dr. Timothy Harris.  There is a complete lack of transparency, accountability and rule of law in our justice, financial and public administration systems.

In 2015, the Team Unity coalition ran on a campaign that promised to bring change, but the only change they have brought is a change for the worse.  They promised to strengthen democracy and good governance. Fast forward to four years later and the rights, liberties and democratic interests of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis are being continuously and callously trampled upon with seeming impunity.

Today, with this MONC, the Parliamentary Opposition, speaking on the authority of majority of the people of this Federation, is saying that ENOUGH is ENOUGH.  Today it is time to break the silence and to speak out and stand up for what is right and just for the people of our Federation.

In this climate of fear, political harassment, victimization and intimidation, we recognize our responsibility to be a voice for the voiceless, even those who can speak but choose to look the other way.

It was Edmund Burke who said that “the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing”, and the Labour Party which has been a champion for rights and freedoms of the people from our very inception will today stand like a rock in defense of the democratic principles and liberties for which our forbears fought and bled.

Integrity and ethical conduct in public life are the foundation stones of leadership, and politics without principle is the biggest threat to the peace and security of our people.

The St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party is determined to lead by example and for this reason, has recently adopted a Code of Ethical Conduct that has set the standard of acceptable behavior for the Executive Members of our party moving forward. With the signing of this Code of Ethics our Party has underscored and solidified our solemn commitment to uphold the highest principles and ideals enshrined in our Constitution.

The Parliamentary Opposition has taken the steps to put our own house in order and today we are saying that it is time to put THIS Honourable House in order.

Since his installation as Prime Minister, Dr. Timothy Harris, the Honourable member for Constituency 7 has shown nothing but contempt for the laws and Constitution of this country.

He has taken this country to new levels of low which also include his personal involvement in scandal after scandal, from the Herpes Vaccine and Stem Cell scandal, the PLP Campaign Funds misappropriation scandal, to the London Virdee Bribery Scandal which has implicated the Office of the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis in allegations of bribery and corruption of international proportions. And just recently with the St. Kitts and Nevis Citizenship by Investment forgery scandal, it is believed that the Prime Minister has potentially exposed himself to United States Federal Investigation and possible money laundering charges.

This has tarnished the reputation and good standing of St. Kitts and Nevis regionally and internationally.

Today we put before you as part of the MONC, FOUR PAGES worth of egregious infractions and illegalities that directly links the Prime Minister with acts of corruption that has severely undermined democracy and has endangered the economic development of this country.

The people of St. Kitts and Nevis deserve better than this.  The people of St. Kitts and Nevis DEMAND better than this, if not for ourselves, for the future generations who will hold us accountable.  As a nation, we are all tied together in a single garment of destiny.  We cannot stand idly by to watch all that we have worked hard to build and attained be completely unravelled by ONE MAN, WITH ONE SEAT.
